Ep. 7: Preserving Character in a Quirky Mid-Century Renovation

Welcome to the Maple Leaf House, a mid-century gem aptly named for its quirky, inspired footprint. Located in Calgary, AB, the homeowners, in collaboration with Mera Studio Architects, guided this home through a meticulous renovation that preserves its original charm and character. After stalking the home on MLS for 14 months, Nya and Chris were awe-struck after finally scheduling a tour, and subsequently agreed the home had to be theirs. Reluctantly, Nya and Chris agreed to a nine-month closing period, which proved to be a blessing in disguise. This time frame allowed for a close collaboration with Mera Studio Architects to plan the renovation and procure materials. During this time, the original owner had Nya visit for tea while she shared the home's history and the love that went into building it. Nya and Chris' mission was clear: work with Mera Studio Architects to honor the home's unique character and appeal, while making updates where needed to create a more welcoming environment for family and friends.
